We had a house inspected by Neil. We were more than 100% satisfied with the inspection. Neil was so friendly from the first time we contacted him. We set a time and met him at the house. He covered every aspect of the house and every inch of space and he really knew what he was doing and looking for as he has had many years of experience doing this. It was a very, very thorough inspection and Neil did a walk through with me when he was finished. The report was very detailed. He didn't miss looking at anything and made notes of everything no matter how major or minor. We were easily able to contact Neil with follow up questions to clarify things and he responded very quickly. The most important thing to mention is that through his expertise and thorough inspection he found things that we did not. The cost of the inspection was very reasonable for all that he did. The cost of the inspection was very minimal in relation to the deficiencies he found in the HVAC system and other things. He saved us a ton of money on immediate and future repairs in that we were able to renegotiate the sale price to take into account some of these repairs. If you are buying or even selling give Neil a call to check things out before you list or after you have purchased. Even the smallest of things can easily cover the cost of the inspection. Great service done in a timely manner which is appreciated when your an anxious or excited home buyer. Hiring Neil to inspect our new home has cost us dearly. He missed numerous issues that any competent inspector would have found including structural issues, leaks, improper repairs, as well as the fact that one of the bathroom fans was vented into the attic! (I specifically mention that one because it was especially egregious as he didn’t just miss this issue- he made statements about the bathroom exhaust vent routing that proved to be contrary to what we found when we looked in the attic for ourselves). We’ve had multiple contractors in to look at these issues and the first question after they look over the house is always “why didn’t you get an inspection?” And when we tell them that we did, they all say something to the effect of, “you got fleeced”. Our experience makes me seriously question the veracity of many of the reviews on this page because our experience was very poor and his incompetence has cost us a lot of time, money and stress.Edit: you claim in your response that I did not contact you about my concerns between the time of the inspection and my review- this is absolutely false. While the inspection was in May, we took possession in July and I sent an email regarding some of the issues that we had found up to that point on July 21. As for the time between the inspection and this review, rather than rush to post a review before I had all the information, I chose to have second and third opinions from both contractors and a structural engineer before taking the time to write a review of our experience. As well, some issues weren’t encountered until I recently had reason to inspect some areas myself (like the attic) that should’ve been inspected properly during our home inspection.

Thorough, Neil was very thorough and I was amazed at the the number of checks he made looking for issues. Things that I'd not have though to check. I was glad for his willingness to ensure we were following along and understood what he was telling us. When it was finished, my overall feeling was that we'd been lucky to have him there. Also a feeling of relief that there were no apparent major issues and that we felt confident about dealing with smaller issues that he had found.I have no clue about average pricing but we have no complaints in that regard.

Our inspector Neil was A+++He went and did his thing, after we met with him at the house and he gave us a full walkthrough and broke down everything.If something was an unknown for whatever reason (in our case, a total inspection of the roof due to snow coverage) he would plainly let us know, but offered to return free of charge to inspect further.Would definitely recommend Prairie Building Inspections to others in the future.

We hired Neil for a home inspection in a rural Saskatchewan location and the experience exceeded my expectations. Neil is a thorough home inspector with loads of knowledge that he openly shares. He was patient with my questions and gave full, unassuming answers. Neil was also respectful and never once made me feel inept or "naturally unknowing" through stereotypical gender assumptions. Neil's evaluation of the home was impartial and based on the facts. He did not offer his personal opinion on whether we should buy the house or not. He laid out the facts, presented options for fixing things and provided detail maintenance plans. Neil wrote a comprehensive report FULL of photos to help understand the content of the report. He was also available after the fact for additional questions. I would hire Neil (Prairie Building Inspections) again - no question. The service was well worth the cost.

If you want a thorough & professional report, Neil is the person to hire. He should us every aspect of the house and explained things that we wouldn’t have even thought about asking! Neil is fantastic! So thorough, friendly and funny! He walked me through the entire home inspection all the while explaining what was done well and what needed attention. I would highly recommend using Prairie Building Inspections.
